Which is the route? Swim across the Itabaca Channel (1500 mts.); cycling 40 Kms. From Itabaca to Bellavista and 10 Kms. From Bellavista to San Francisco Park in Puerto Ayora.
How difficult is the route? The distances of an Olympic Triathlon, its difficulty grade is important. There is stream in the channel, in favor and against, low tide. 7 kms of hard hill and 21 Kms with wind against in the cycling section. The running section is downhill in a soft slope.
Will there be logistics to take us from Puerto Ayora to Itabaca? Transportation will be at the disposal of the participants and their teams from Puerto Ayora to the Lighter in the Itabaca Channel, which is the starting point of the competition. The same vehicles will provide logistics to the judges, journalists and participants left behind or withdrawn the competition.
During the competition, is the road going to be closed to traffic? Only vehicles from the organizing committee could pass in the route from Puerto Ayora to the Channel. The route will be closed for all other vehicles from 14h00 to 18h00. In the contrary route the traffic will be restricted, due to massive participants.
Will there be suppliers of water along the route? There will only be available drinks in the transition stations and in the finish line. We recommend the cyclists to carry 2 non disposable bottles (caramañolas) of water in their bicycles. WATCH OUT! WE ARE IN Galápagos Islands and here, a clean environment is priority over everything else.
If I'm a Foreign participant, how do I get to Galapagos? Airlines LAN, TAME y AEROGAL have daily fights. Please purchase an airplane ticket to BALTRA. Try to arrive to the airport at least 90 minutes in advance. Before the airlines check in you should ask a revision to the SESA-SICGAL. Its forbidden to bring organic things (seeds, certain fruits, flowers, bugs or insects) which could affect the local environment. Once you pass the inspection, buy the Visitors Control Card "Tarjeta de Control de Visitantes" ($10.oo) issued by INGALA. Restrictions on the luggage weigh apply.
Once I get to Baltra…. What should I do? You should pay the TAX for entering to the Galapagos National Park ($6.oo), ask the SESA-SICGAL to review your hand luggage and take your luggage. There is a free bus service. Take the buses to the Channel. Once in the channel you should take a ferry ($0.80) to cross the Itabaca Channel (5 minutes only). Here you can take a bus or a van for a 40 minutes ride across the island to Puerto Ayora. Once in Puerto Ayora, a taxi ride to anywhere in the island cost $1,oo
Do I need a wetsuit or bathsuit? The wetsuit is recommended, the 5mm sleeveless, but it is optional, not required.
